On June 22, the AI company Midjourney announced the launch of version 5.2 of its text-to-image AI model via Twitter. This recent update follows the release of version 5.1 in May and introduces a set of exciting features for AI art enthusiasts to use in inventive ways. While the updated version is capable of achieving remarkable results, a clear understanding of its capabilities and limitations will ensure optimal use.

Zoom Out Feature
Using V5.2 requires no setup; the updated features are automatically incorporated into your user settings and will be effective as soon as you enter a command. The first feature we'll explore is the Zoom Out function of Midjourney.

The zoom feature, similar to Adobe's Generative Fill tool, lets users enlarge an existing image, increasing its range while preserving the original image details. After initiating a command through the "/image" prompt, Midjourney produces four visual iterations based on the user's input. Users can then "upscale" their chosen image for higher-resolution rendering.

Following this, three buttons labeled "Zoom Out 2x," "Zoom Out 1.5x," and "Custom Zoom" appear below the upscaled image. The first two options double and increase the scale of the original image by one and a half times, respectively. The "Custom Zoom" option lets you manually adjust the zoom ratio to any value between 1.0 and 2.0. Attempts to exceed the 2.0 limit will prompt an error message from Midjourney, instructing you to stay within the specified range.

The appealing aspect here lies in the endless zoom possibilities. You can continuously apply the Zoom Out 1.5/2x feature on an upscaled image, resulting in an ever-growing visual piece.

Expanding an existing image to form a visually consistent environment is an effective method for creators to elevate their ideas. Since the update's release, Twitter has been buzzing with users sharing their thoughts on how the updated model might be put to creative use. Some users have suggested integrating image interpolation and edits in software like Final Cut Pro to generate visually enticing visuals that emulate an infinite zoom effect.
